Project: Lesbian Herstory Archive Audio/Visual Collection Website
Description: This project is from INFO 665 Projects in Digital Archives with Anthony Cocciolo in Spring 2021 (attended virtually). Over the course of a semester, we designed and implemented a new website for the Lesbian Herstory Archives A/V Collections.
Role: This project was carried out in a group with Devin Alford and Jessica Salinas. We worked on the design of the site collaboratively; I handled all server-side interaction.
Methods: Our group updated the site to Omeka 2.8, and took steps to ensure that the site was readable on mobile devices and tablets, a feature that did not exist on the previous version. We made structural organizational changes to allow for greater accessibility of the site's content for users accessing the A/V materials. After these issues were addressed, we focused on creating a design of the site that would be distinct from the LHA main site while retaining a similar aesthetic.
Rationale: Throughout the process of updating the LHA A/V Collections website, our group consulted usage data from the site analytics and sought feedback from our classmates, creating a final design for the website balancing design and usability while taking into account accessibility concerns. We also took care to consider future Pratt SI students working with the Omeka site, and chose an often-updated theme with robust customization options. Our primary concern was to ensure the site would work well for all users, regardless of their means of access.
